Xiamen metro line 6 maluan bay section of the shield tunnel section successfully completed
Xiamen metro line 6 (maluan bay section) maluan central station to jimeidao station reached a two-way crossing at 10:30 this morning.
The shield tunnel between maluan central station and jimei island station has a total length of about 2100 meters. The tunnel section runs through the waters of maluan bay. The tunneling started in December 2018. The successful completion of the tunnel in both directions marks the breakthrough of another key and difficult project.
The cross-sea tunnel between the central station of maluan and jimei island station was constructed with earth-pressure balance shield. During the construction process, it was faced with engineering difficulties, such as high risk of submarine tunnel collapse, easy risk of water and sand gushing from coarse sand layer, small distance between existing tunnels on the upper span and great difficulty in monitoring.
In order to overcome difficulties, all parties involved in the construction should advance technology, establish a monitoring and command center, and conduct all-round and all-weather control of shield tunneling. By controlling tunneling parameters and reinforcing grouting, the safety, quality and progress were well controlled, which lasted 245 days and realized the smooth connection of the two lines according to the node plan.
Progress of the project of maluan bay section of metro line 6:3 main structures and 2 sections have been completed, construction is underway between xibin intersection station and jixi district, and 65.2% of the tunnel section has been excavated.
