The Chongming Line of Shanghai rail transit connects the central city and chongming island. Through connecting the major towns and cities of the two islands along the route and important functional groups in Pudong area, chongming will be connected to the rail transit network in the central urban area to promote the linkage development between the two islands and the fast connection with the urban area. The routes of the first phase of the project are Jinqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone of Pudong New Area, Waigaoqiao free trade Zone Microelectronics Industry Base, Caolu Town, Changxing Town of Chongming District, etc.

The design starting point of the first phase of Chongming Railway is located in the inner wall of the station at the south end of Jinji Road Station (CK0+000.000), and the end point is located in the inner wall at the north end of Changxing Island Well (no. 2 shield conversion well (and intermediate air shaft)) (CK22+296.486). The main direction of the line is along Jinji Road station -- Shenjiang Road -- Gaobao Road -- Dongjing Road -- Yangtze River South Port -- Yongwei Road -- Changxing Island North well. The line length of the first phase of the project is about 22.3km, all of which are laid underground, among which the tunnel through the Yangtze River in Nangang is 9.702km. Except for the section across the Yangtze River South Port, which is 13.0m in diameter (outside diameter) (11.9m in diameter) large shield, the other underground sections with double lines are constructed by 6.9m in diameter single shield method.

The control center is located in C3 building of Puhuitang Vehicle Base. The first phase of the project consists of two main substations, one of which is located near Changxing Island Station.
