According to reports, the whole tunnel is tunneling into the long-section full-section clay stratum with the minimum overburden thickness of only 6.4 meters and the minimum clear distance between the left and right two tunnels of only 6.8 meters, both of which are less than half of the outer diameter of the shield tunnel. It has gone through the existing Shaohang oil pipeline, emergency river and Qiantang River embankment, and crossed the river bridge side by side. During the crossing process, the shield tunneling machine is also faced with the influence of the tide of qiantang River, so the construction is difficult and the technical requirements are high.

The new section of Qiantang Expressway is planned to be opened to traffic before the 2022 Asian Games, linking Ronghang expressway in Qiantang New District. By then, it will greatly shorten the distance between Xixi Wetland, west of the city, central city and Qiantang New District, and shorten the driving time from west of the city to Jiangdong area of Qiantang New District to 40 minutes.
