On March 1st, the shield machine for the left line of the first shield section (from Kunjia Road Station to Honghu Road Station) of Suzhou Metro Line S1 was launched, marking that the project entered a new stage of parallel construction of the station structure and section shield construction.

The small loose earth pressure balance shield machine used in this area is an "upgraded" shield machine. This shield tunneling machine can be said to have achieved many achievements -- it has completed the shield tunneling tasks of five subway projects in Wuxi, Suzhou and Wuhan. The construction party updated and upgraded the main parts of the shield machine to effectively prolong the service life, and expanded its diameter from 6.34m to 6.76m to meet the needs of Suzhou Metro Line S1 construction. The company's equipment and materials department introduced that compared with the newly purchased shield machine more than 40 million yuan of expenditure, upgrade and transformation for the enterprise to save about 6.5 million yuan.

Suzhou Metro Line S1 connects Suzhou downtown to the west and Shanghai Jiading to the east. It is the first urban rail transit line in Suzhou and the first line to connect with Shanghai rail transit network. The tunnel in the left line of the shield tunneling section from Kunjialu Station to Honghu Road Station is 1246 meters long. The shield tunneling machine needs to pass through the silty soil and silt soil layer, underpass the bridge along the way, and side-pass the 110kV and 35kV high-voltage lines and the pile foundation of power steel pipe tower in a short distance. The settlement control requirements of the ground and construction structures are high, and the construction is difficult. The section tunnel is constructed by shield method, and the connection channel and pump house is constructed by mine method. It is expected to be completed by the end of May.

The project department will return to work on the 10th day of the first lunar month to strictly control and improve the preparation conditions for shield tunneling to ensure that the shield tunneling machine will be launched as scheduled. After the launch of the shield machine, the project department will also strengthen the monitoring of ground conditions and strictly control the advancing parameters of the shield to ensure the safety of the shield construction.
