Recently, with the start of the long arm excavator, the first shovel of the shield starting shaft was dug, which marks that this municipal railway demonstration line has entered the foundation pit excavation stage.

Excavators and hoisting cranes rumbled in the morning at the construction site of the Shanghai Metro Airport Connection Project. The excavation of the shield shaft began. The 156-meter-long foundation pit was dug to a depth of 25.5 meters, and the pit was only 10.6 meters from the nearest point of Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed railway.

This foundation pit is one of the largest excavation depths adjacent to the foundation of high-speed railway in China at present, which requires extremely strict control of the displacement of high-speed railway track. The displacement limit of high speed rail slab roof during foundation pit excavation is controlled by 2mm. While ensuring the safety of high speed railway operation and time limit for construction, valuable construction experience and achievements are accumulated. At present, a number of research projects are progressing in an orderly way. Construction of the foundation pit is expected to be completed in September, with shield tunneling to be carried out before the end of the year.

Shanghai Airport Link Line is one of the first 11 municipal railway demonstration lines identified in the Guidance Opinions on Promoting Urban (Suburban) Railway Development issued by the National Development and Reform Commission. It is the first new railway line in Shanghai's municipal railway network.
