On October 21, 2021, chongqing Metro Line 5, a two-way tunnel between Chunxuan Avenue station and Yuegang Avenue Station in the northern extension section was completed, which is another major node target after the completion of the tunnel between Yuegang Avenue station and Yuegang North Road station, laying a solid foundation for the smooth implementation of the opening task of the line.

The northern extension section of Metro Line 5 has 6 drilling and blasting sections with a total length of 4.73 km, accounting for 65% of the total length of the whole line. The surrounding environment of the interval tunnel is complicated. Some of the tunnels are located under the existing bridge pile foundation, gas pipeline, urban main road and fish pond, and some of the tunnels pass through strongly weathered shale and backfill soil area, making construction difficult.

Since the construction of the railway line started, the Railway Group and the construction unit have adhered to the management principle of "high efficiency, balance, green and high quality" and carried out all-round grid management to continuously increase the efficiency of the project. In the process of construction, cooperated-builing parties has overcome the complicated construction environment, poor geological conditions of surrounding rock, construction risk higher difficulties, continuously optimize the construction plan, reasonable arrangement of construction plan, continue to maintain good working condition, the smooth implementation in all six drill blasting interval, for line 5 north extension project construction to speed up.

The northern extension section of metro Line 5 has a total length of 8.64 kilometers, spanning liangjiang New Area and Yubei District. After completion, the line will form a north-south backbone channel connecting Dadukou district, Jiulongpo District, Shapingba District, Yuzhong District, Jiangbei District, Liangjiang New Area and Yubei District with the phase I project of Line 5, further easing the north-south passenger flow pressure of Chongqing rail network.
