The design excavation size of the north shaft is 13.5×12.5m and the depth is 77.5m. The construction of the north shaft officially started on February 15, 2022. It is faced with many difficulties, such as complex surrounding environment, difficult slag removal, easy softening of rock mass, water seepage and collapse. All parties involved in the construction constantly optimize the construction scheme based on the actual project, improve the overall construction efficiency control level of the project, and ensure the smooth implementation of the shaft project. So far, in the preliminary project of the two Tunnels project, in addition to the final sprint of the south shaft, the inclined shaft project, the north shaft project and the foundation pit of the shield starting shaft have all been completed with high quality, which provides a solid foundation for the two tunnels to realize the construction organization of "heading, three-pronged, multi-point sub-bunting of the long tunnel".

Up to now, in the main works of the two tunnels project, the Huangdao continental section has completed pipeline relocation, open excavation and arch cover construction of the main entrance, and entered the excavation of the main hole in the underground section. The north-south main line tunnel and service tunnel in the drilling and explosion section of the sea area are parallel with each other. The construction has entered 90 meters below the sea level, and more than 1,700 meters of tunnels have been excavated in total.

It is reported that the second Jiaozhou Bay tunnel starts from Huaihe East Road in Qingdao West Coast New District, runs east along Liugongdao Road, crosses Jiaozhou Bay, lands near Qingdao Port, and connects to Qingdao East coast urban area in the form of an elevated bridge at the mouth of Haibo River. The total length of the main line of the project is 17.48 kilometers, of which the tunnel length is 14.37 kilometers (9.95 kilometers in the sea area). It adopts the arrangement of the double-hole two-way six-lane main tunnel and the middle service tunnel. The deepest point is 115 meters from the sea level. The whole project is scheduled to be completed and open to traffic in December 2027.
