More than half of the tunnel is planned to be completed and opened to traffic by the end of 2024
On May 30, at a depth of 52 meters in the Yangtze River, the Wanjiang Struggle shield machine finished assembling the last piece of the 1096 ring under the control of the piece-builder. So far, "the first Wanjiang tunnel" - left and right lines of Wuhu Chengnan Crossing River Tunnel has completed a total of 4180 meters of shield tunneling, tunnel tunneling length has been more than half of the whole.
The Chengnan River Crossing tunnel in Wuhu is designed with 6 lanes in both directions, of which the right line tunnel is 3967 meters long, and the left line tunnel is 3958 meters long, with a total length of 7925 meters. Up to now, the two shield tunneling machines on the left and right lines have entered the Yangtze River below the surface. On the right line, the Wanjiang Struggle shield tunneling machine has completed 2,192 meters of tunneling. The left line "Wanjiang Fuxing" shield tunneling machine completed the excavation of 1,988 meters. A total of 4180 meters of double-track tunnel has been excavated, 53% of the total length has been completed, and more than half of the tunnel shield tunneling has been excavated.
Since May 2022, Wanjiang Fengsheng (right line) and Wanjiang Fuxing (left line) shield tunneling machines of Chengnan Crossing River Tunnel in Wuhu have successively entered the composite stratum with soft upper layer and hard lower layer and high viscosity, which makes construction difficulty suddenly increase and tunneling difficulty. In the face of uneven formation of high viscosity, soft and hard, the 14th Bureau of China Railway, the construction unit, guided by science and technology, put forth great efforts to tackle technical problems. It convened an advisory meeting of academicians and experts, and adopted a series of measures to optimize the shield cutting tools, adjust the tunneling parameters of the shield tunneling machine, etc., to overcome construction difficulties and ensure the smooth tunneling of the shield tunneling machine.
The Chengnan River Crossing Tunnel in Wuhu is scheduled to be completed and opened to traffic by the end of 2024. After the tunnel is opened to traffic, it only takes 5 minutes to drive across the river, which will greatly improve the cross-river traffic capacity of Wuhu City, and play an important role in accelerating the development of the northern part of the river, promoting the construction of the provincial sub-center in Wuhu, accelerating the economic and social development of both sides of the Yangtze River in Anhui Province and the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta.
