The east section of the Shanghai North Cross Passage has been fully connected, and the shield has met at Hongkou "Double Dragon"

The reporter learned from the major office of the district that the new construction of the North cross passage has made new progress. On July 25, the cutter head of the 15m-diameter super-large shield "Jiangong" arrived at the end of the receiving well on Anguo Road in Hongkou and slowly entered the hole. This means that the new VII tunnel of the North Cross Passage project has been completed, and it also marks the completion of the tunnel excavation section of the east section of the North Cross Passage.

As a part of the backbone network of Shanghai's "three vertical and three horizontal", the North Cross Channel is a special east-west channel in the north of the downtown area, serving the Hongqiao Hub, the northern key areas, and the middle and long distance traffic to and from Pudong New Area, which is of great significance for relieving the traffic pressure of Yan 'an Elevated Road and the northern section of the Inner Ring Road.

The total length of the North Cross passage project is about 19.1 km, and the underground tunnel section is about 14.7 km, which is divided into the western section and the eastern section. The western section is from Beihong Road to Tianmu Road interchange Wen 'an Road ground point, and the eastern section is from Tianmu Road interchange Wen 'an Road ground point to Zhoujiazui Road Neijiang Road.

Among them, Hongkou section is an important part of the Beiheng East section of the project, from Henan North Road to Dalian Road, through Haining Road, Zhoujiazui Road, a total length of 3.14 kilometers. Two working Wells, Anguo Road and Wuzhou Road, are set up in the Hongkou section.

On September 29 and December 10, 2021, the two super large shield structures involved in the construction of the eastern section of the North Cross Passage - "Jiangong" and "Vertical and Horizontal", respectively, started from the Fujian Road work well and Huangxing Road work well, and moved in the same direction, starting twice after the Wuzhou Road work well and Yangshupu Port work well passed the station at the end of December and September 2022, respectively. On July 25 and June 15, 2023, they entered the hole together at the Anguo Road well. The "double dragon" meeting of the two shield tunnels marks the completion of the eastern section of the North cross passage.

The tunnel shield in the eastern section should overcome the problems such as passing through the central city, large building volume, dense and complex underground pipelines, small operation surface and traffic organization. Especially in the Hongkou section, it is necessary to pass through the running rail line 10, rail Line 4, new road tunnel and Hongkou Port. The close distance and complex soil layer condition make the difficulty coefficient of shield crossing greatly improved.

In order to ensure the smooth progress of the shield, the relevant departments of Hongkou District actively stepped forward, actively served, and repeatedly studied with the construction units to deepen the security plan during the crossing, at the same time, established a joint headquarters office with the municipal departments and participating units, implemented 24-hour duty, and formulated a series of linkage mechanisms such as information exchange, data sharing, and emergency response.

After the completion of the tunnel, the construction unit and the participating units will continue to accelerate the construction of the internal structure of the tunnel and lay the foundation for the completion and opening to traffic in the first half of next year.
