On March 17, the Chongtai Yangtze River Tunnel "Pilot", independently developed by China and the world's largest diameter high-speed iron shield machine, was excavated to the 2500 ring, breaking through the 5000 meters mark, leaving only 660 meters from the center of the river.

According to Chongming news, recently, the "pilot" shield machine has broken through 2,100 rings, from Chongming to Taicang in Jiangsu province more than 4,200 meters, is under the Yangtze River Coilia national aquatic germplasm resources conservation area.

On December 22, after more than 10 hours of pouring operations, the first floor of the Jiangnan section of the Haitai Yangtze River Tunnel was poured, officially opening the prelude to the construction of the main structure of the Jiangnan section.

On December 1, with the cutter head of the ultra-large diameter shield machine with a diameter of 14.9 meters successfully down the well, the installation work of the "Qiantang" shield unit of the Qiantang River Tunnel of Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport Line constructed by the 14th Bureau of China Railway was basically completed, and the shield of the first high-speed railway tunnel across the Qiantang River in China entered the "countdown".

On 19 August 2024, the first of two shields for the Melbourne North East Link tunnel project was ready to start tunneling operations.
